Two cadres of RSP under police custody for defaming Bharatpur Mayor Dahal

CHITWAN, Nov 22: Two activists of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have been arrested on the charge of defaming Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal through social media.

CHITWAN, Nov 22: Two activists of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have been arrested on the charge of defaming Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal through social media.


The District Police Office, Chitwan, took them into custody on Tuesday evening. Among those arrested are Upendra Devkota, deputy chairman of Bharatpur Ward No-7 of RSP and Shiva Sharma of Ratnanagar Municipality-10.


Spokesperson for the District Police Office, Chitwan, DSP Bijay Raj Pandit said that they were arrested after receiving a verbal complaint for trying to defame Bharatpur Metropolis Mayor Dahal and journalist Santosh Deuja by posting their photos on social media.

Party cadre Shiva Sharma edited Bharatpur Metropolis Mayor’s Dahal and journalist Santosh Deuja's photo on social media and Devkota shared the same post, he said.


Sharma has threatened journalist Deuja by stating that he is trying to defame Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of RSP.


DSP Pandit said that further investigation into the matter is underway. “They were detained based on a verbal complaint. No written complaint has been received so far. The investigation will proceed accordingly,” Pandit said.


District Chairman of RSP, Krishna Prasad Bhushal has admitted that there was a mistake by the party’s cadres.
