Two Indian pilgrims killed, 21 injured as truck hits parked bus in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT, June 11: Two Indian pilgrims were killed while 21 others sustained injuries in a road accident in Rautahat district last night.

RAUTAHAT, June 11: Two Indian pilgrims were killed while 21 others sustained injuries in a road accident in Rautahat district last night.


The incident took place when a heavy-duty truck hit the back of a parked bus carrying 60 Indian pilgrims at Mangalpur area of Chandrapur municipality along the East-West Highway.

The deceased have been identified as 52-year-old Bijay Kumar Jena and 54-year-old Charan Bishal from the Indian state of Odisha, and their bodies have been kept at Chandranigahapur Hospital, police said. 


Of the injured, three are said to be in critical condition and they have been receiving treatment at Birgunj-based Neuro Hospital.


Another six injured passengers are undergoing treatment at Chandranigahapur Hospital in Rautahat.  Twelve injured passengers have returned home following the treatment, according to police.


The ill-fated bus was en route to Janakpur from Kathmandu carrying Indian pilgrims. The truck driver has remained absconding following the incident.
