Two rhinos found dead in CNP

NAWALPUR, April 13: Two rhinoceroses were found dead in the buffer zone of Chitwan National Park (CNP). 


One of them was found dead in a tributary of the Narayani River under Amaltari sector of CNP while the other near the Riu stream of Madi sector. The information was confirmed by Information Officer and assistant conservation officer at CNP, Ganesh Prasad Tiwari. The one found in the Amaltari sector was a female pachyderm of nearly seven months, he added.

Similarly, the rhino found dead near the Riu stream was a six-month old male rhino.  He further added that the male one might have died in a tiger attack. 


As the pachyderms were young, they had not developed horns.


With the latest wildlife loss, the number of rhino deaths has reached 16 in the current fiscal year. Among the total loss, six pachyderms were killed by poachers.
