KATHMANDU, Dec 20: KP Sharma Oli, chairman of the CPN (UML), has expressed his dissatisfaction that the Election Commission could not play a fair and effective role in the general elections held on November 20.
Even though the election booths were captured, the Election Commission failed to perform its duties, Oli said during a program organized by the CPN-UML in Kathmandu on Tuesday. He added that even though people cast votes in the name of ‘dead’ people, the Election Commission didn’t show any interest in cross-checking the names. According to Oli, the EC weakened democracy by not conducting re-election. He said that such activities of the Election Commission must be stopped in the future.

Even the role of the agencies responsible for making the elections fair hadn’t been competent and transparent, said Oli. It is no longer the case that such bodies held their ethics.
“The election was not repeated even though everyone knows that booths were captured and we have proof,” said Oli, who added that dead people and people residing on foreign land voted.
Oli strongly argued that the continuation of such activities risked the meaning of democratic practice and elections. Oli added, therefore, we need to be aware of such things and stand against it. If such things cannot be stopped, people's trust towards democratic practices will gradually decrease and ultimately lead to make the system unpopular and ultimately a failure.
Oli was also honored for getting the most popular votes in the program.
