KATHMANDU, May 13: As an effort to avert the possible resignation of lawmakers close to the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has withdrawn the party's earlier decision to suspend four leaders - Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey and Ghanashyam Bhusal.

A Standing Committee meeting of the party held on Wednesday made a decision to this effect. The meeting had endorsed the proposal to withdraw the suspension of the party's four leaders after Oli, who is also the prime minister, proposed revoking the suspension decision.

The decision comes in the wake of CPN-UML lawmakers close to Nepal planning to resign en masse as Chairman Oli declined the demands put forth by the Nepal-led faction to revoke his earlier decisions to induct former Maoist Center leaders as the central committee members of the UML and strip off the party responsibility of leaders close to Nepal.

Whether the decision to revoke the suspension will stop the resignation of the lawmakers close to Nepal is yet to be seen. President Bidya Devi Bhandari has asked the opposition parties to come up with the support of majority lawmakers to form a new government by 9PM today. Should the lawmakers close to Nepal decide not to tender their resignations, the attempt of NC President Deuba to form a new government will be almost impossible since a faction of Janata Samajbadi Party has decided to stay neutral.
