UML wins mayor, deputy mayor, majority wards in Dharan

DHARAN, July 10: CPN-UML candidates have won the post of mayor and deputy mayor in the eastern town of Dharan Sub-metropolis as vote counting concluded on Monday evening.

DHARAN, July 10: CPN-UML candidates have won the post of mayor and deputy mayor in the eastern town of Dharan Sub-metropolis as vote counting concluded on Monday evening.


UML's Tara Subba and Manju Bhandari Subedi were elected mayor and deputy mayor defeating their closest rivals of Nepali Congress by over 4,000 votes.

Along with mayor and deputy mayor, the UML won total seats in 14 of the total 20 wards of the sub-metropolis. The NC won five wards and the CPN (Maoist Center) won a ward.


With this victory, the UML has succeeded to maintain its stronghold, where the party won both local elections held in 1997 and 1992. The party won parliamentary elections in this district except for the Constituent Assembly election in 2008.
