KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Efforts by CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to appease the agitating Madhes-based parties received a jolt Tuesday evening as the taskforce formed to finalize a political document of commitment to addressing the demands of the agitating parties could not finalize the document.

Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) Chairman Upendra Yadav said that the Federal Alliance as well as the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) sensed something was amiss in the intentions of Maoist Center and the Nepali Congress as top leaders of both parties were absent from a meeting that was to finalize the document and sign it.

“The taskforce in the morning (Tuesday) verbally agreed the commitment paper. Top leaders were to sign it but we found Dahal and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba trying instead to court the Rastriya Prajatantra Party -Nepal and other parties,” said Yadav.

“We seconded Dahal’s candidacy for prime minister in the morning but right after our signing on to his nomination, he is trying to sideline the agitating parties,” he added.

However, Yadav said that the alliance is yet to decide whether or not to vote for Dahal. “If the NC and Maoist Center sign the agreement document tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, we will vote for Dahal. If they try to delay the signing, we will not vote for Dahal even though we seconded his candidacy,” said Yadav.

Meanwhile, Sadbhavana Party Co-chair Laxman Lal Karna claimed that a meeting of top leaders from all three sides will be held tomorrow to finalize the document and an environment will be created so that the agitating parties can vote for Dahal.

“The meeting scheduled for today (Tuesday) has been postponed for Wednesday morning only because of the busy schedules of the top leaders. The meeting on Wednesday will finalize everything and we will vote for Dahal,” claimed Karna.
