KATHMANDU, June 22: The government has informed the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly, the Upper House of the federal parliament, that 13 people have died, 26 are missing and eight have been injured in monsoon-induced floods and landslides in various parts of the country this year so far.
In the Committee’s meeting held today at Singha Durbar under the chairmanship of the Committee’s President Prakash Panth, the home ministry's officiating secretary Mahadev Panth provided preliminary information on the damages caused by the recent floods and landslides, adding that further details are still awaited.
NA chair urges all to join hands in relief and rescue
According to him, the government has prioritized rescue, relief, and risk management efforts in response to these natural disasters. According to him, in the last fiscal year, the government allocated approximately Rs 1.15 billion for relief and assistance related to incidents of natural disasters.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, is scheduled to brief the meeting on the scale of natural disasters in the country, the volume of losses, preparedness for risk reduction and response and so on.
