Uncertainty looms large; 32 days until the presidential election
Kathmandu, Oct 3: Several US media outlets have reported that President Donald J. Trump,74, has been hospitalized after developing symptoms for COVID-19. He was tested positive for the virus yesterday. He has been admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he will remain for several days.
This is an unprecedented event, just 32 days before the presidential election on November 3.
Trump ex-campaign boss hospitalized amid threat to harm self
CNN is reporting that Trump has had a fever since morning, and he received a dose of an experimental Regeneron treatment. President Trump is “fatigued” and has mild symptoms of COVID-19. He is reportedly “spooked” after he tested positive for coronavirus.
Medical outcomes for Trump are vast. James Hamblin, M.D., a lecturer at Yale School of Public Health, wrote in the Atlantic:
The president’s prognosis includes the full spectrum of possible outcomes. Many people infected by the coronavirus have no symptoms at all. Today, the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, told reporters that Trump has been showing “mild” symptoms, akin to those of a common cold. That suggests he has been infected for at least two days, possibly many more. He could clear the virus and test negative in short order, and return to the campaign trail within days. He could also have a prolonged hospitalization involving weeks of unconsciousness on a ventilator, during which time Vice President Mike Pence would take charge. The president could die.
Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee for president, has tested negative for the virus. He wished Trump and first lady Melania a “swift recovery”. Similarly, former US president Barack Obama also wished for Trump and Melania a “speedy recovery”. The Biden campaign has pulled out all the negative ads after Trump’s coronavirus infection.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and President Bidhya Devi Bhandari have also sent Trump and Melania a “speedy recovery and good health” wishes.
