RASUWA, Sept 30: With the arrival of Dashain, the greatest festival of Hindus, local units are gearing up to resume vehicular movement on various rural roads, which were obstructed due to landslides caused by torrential rain.

In the first year of the local governments, road construction has been the most prioritized sector, compared to other infrastructures. Earlier, various road tracks were opened in rush for the reconstruction of quake damaged settlements. However, those roads need to be repaired and maintained for the smooth operation of vehicles. A lot of roads constructed last year will be ready for vehicular movement this year after some repairing work.

Srijana Lama, vice-chairperson of Naukunda Rural Municipality, said that locals would be able to supply goods and materials for Dashain through the roads. "We have already forwarded the process for resuming traffic along various roads obstructed by landslides," said Vice-chairperson Lama, adding, "Now, locals won't have to carry goods on their own for Dashain and Tihar."

Currently, only a few rural roads are operational. Vehicular movement on the Ghattekhola-Kimrjung-Bansbhanjyang-Parchyang road remains halted for months. Since the formation of the local government, around 45 kilometer road has been extended in Naukunda.

Some of the roads in Kalika Rural Municipality have already been repaired. Bhawani Prasad Neupane, vice-chairperson of Kalika said that repair and maintenance work is underway at several road sections. "Vehicles can ply these roads very soon," said Neupane. All five rural municipalities of Rasuwa have road connectivity. Apart from Langtang of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, all villages have access to roads.

As Langtang is a popular trekking destination for tourists, no roads have been built there. Since the formation of the local units, Naukunda Rural Municipality built more roads than any other local unit followed by Kalika and Uttargaya rural municipalities.
