DHANDING, Oct 4: The Prithvi Highway, which was blocked following the death of two school children in a truck-hit, has now been resumed.
Nirmal Shrestha and Sanjeeb Shrestha of Siddhalek Rural Municipality-6 who had gone to study in Gajuri Rural Municipality-2, Malekhu of Dhading, died on the spot this morning as they were knocked down by a truck (Pra 02-001 Kha 6413) en route to Chitwan from Kathmandu. Following the incident, agitated students, relatives and local residents blocked the highway demanding compensation.
Prithvi Highway resumes after 11 hours of disruption
Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Santu Lal Prasad Jaiswal, said that the decision to reopen the highway was made after discussions between the students, local residents, and the victims' families in coordination with the police.
Traffic has resumed on the highway with the agreement that the school will arrange transportation for the students and provide proper compensation to the families of the deceased. The truck driver, Ashok Bomjan, 41, of Chandrapur Municipality-2 in Rautahat, is under police custody.
