Voting put off in 79 polling centers after disputes: EC

KATHMANDU, May 14: The number of polling centers where voting was put off owing to various reasons in local level elections has reached 79 so far, according to the Election Commission (EC).The local-level election was held across the country on May 13.

KATHMANDU, May 14: The number of polling centers where voting was put off owing to various reasons in local level elections has reached 79 so far, according to the Election Commission (EC).The local-level election was held across the country on May 13.


Voting was postponed in 28 municipalities of 16 districts as of 10 pm on Saturday night, according to the information received by the EC.

Disputes and subsequent clashes led to postponement of voting in districts such as Jumla, Saptari, Kavrepalanchowk, Rautahat, Ramechhap, Bara, Bajura and Parbat among others. 


According to the EC, the total number of places where voting was put off may differ since discussions are being held among the concerned parties whether to count votes or conduct re-election. Vote counting has already begun in most of the local-level government.
