ROLPA, June 10: Kumar Singh Budha, Ward Chairman of Purvirukum Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality-11, who was arrested on the charge of murdering a woman, has been remanded in custody for trial.

Police had arrested Jay Kumar Budha, former ward chairman of the rural municipality, Kumar Singh Budha and Arjun Budha on the charge of killing 39-year-old Duthi Junmaya Budha, who went missing after a clash during election campaign in Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality on May 2.

The court remanded them in custody for 29 days after the police arrested them. Budha was arrested on the basis of a preliminary investigation by the police and a FIR filed by the victim. After repeated extensions and legal proceedings, the court on Friday sent Chairman Budha to jail for trial.

Despite the arrest of ward chairman Kumar Singh on May 9, he has won the election on May 13. He had defeated UML-Congress alliance candidate Laxman Budha by 58 votes. Rural Municipality chairman Puniraj Gharti said that Lain Budha was given a caretaker in the ward after the ward chairman went to jail.

“That incident seems to be well planned. There is no evidence that they killed her. He won the election from jail. The three arrested and the three absconding are all leaders and activists of our party,” Gharti said.
