Water for the pedestrians

Clean and free drinking water for pedestrians is not available for people living in the city. When people get thirsty while walking, they have no other option but to opt for an expensive bottle of mineral water. This problem seems to have inspired the people of the Marwadi Sewa Samiti to launch a program that provides clean drinking water to anyone in need.

The Marwadi Sewa Samiti has employed people to work on small booths that provide water to people passing by. One booth is comprised of a table, an umbrella, chairs, water jars and mugs to drink out of. These booths are located in different parts of the city such as Kasthamandap, Nardevi and Sundhara where people walking by can drink as much clean water as they want to, for free.

The water is supplied out of a clean jar and is safe to drink. Nirmal Kumar Kunwar, a construction worker near the Kathamandap area said, “Free water is a relief. I have been drinking from here (the stall) for a few days and I am very thankful that service has come into

fruition.”

The people working at the booth in Kathamandap, Surya Lama and Babita Lama said that they go through seven to eight jars a day. “We feel great that we are getting an opportunity to help fellow Nepalis,” said Babita, “We help by providing access to water, like the children and the elderly, when they can’t find a potable water source nearby.”

This program has been going on since April 29, and the booths can be found  at a few busy areas within the city.
