KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Activists have staged a protest demonstration in front of the Kathmandu Metropolitan CIty (KMC) Office at Sundhara, demanding the  conservation of Kamalpokhari, a historical pond in Kathmandu.

The activists expressed their strong reservation against the ongoing restoration work at the pond.

Kathmandu Metropolis has been renovating the pond using concrete, which, cultural activists claim, deteriorates the originality of the traditional pond in the capital city. They have urged the KMC to restore the pond in its original style without using cement or iron rods.

“We are sad that the KMC did not learn any lesson from the restoration works of the Malla-era Rani Pokhari,” read a placard held by one of the participants during a symbolic protest carried out by the campaigners a few days ago.

Here are some of the photos taken on Tuesday afternoon.
