Won't participate in elections without statute amendment: UDMF

KATHMANDU, Feb 28: United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) took a decision not to participate in any process of the local level elections without amendment in the constitution.


According to Sadbhavana Party Co-Chair Laxman Lal Karna, the parties under the UDMF will not even register their parties at the Election Commission for participation in the local level election if the government moves forward with the election programs.

"We cannot participate in any election without constitution amendment. If the election programs are pushed, we'll also not register our parties at the Election Commission if the constitution is not amended," said Karna.


Earlier, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal holding a meeting with Madhesi leaders had asked to come up with common view on whether they want to put the constitution amendment bill on hold and go to the local level elections or to move forward with the bill and participate in the election whatever result comes from the parliament.
