WHO Director General admires Nepal’s health workers' efforts for COVID-19 vaccination despite odds
KATHMANDU, June 19: Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO) has admired the efforts being made by the health workers from Nepal who have been discharging their duties despite various odds and difficulties created by weather complications.

Retweeting a video posted by a Twitter user @srp_dr31, on Friday, Director General Tedros asked whether it is fair that in many places ‘these heroes’ have still not been vaccinated?
“This is how far health workers go to save lives. It is in our power and our duty to do everything we can to deliver #VaccinEquity! If not now, when?” he asked.

A short video that shows a PPE-clad health worker, reportedly from Mustang’s Lete in the western Himalayas, trying to get hold of a box filled with vaccines against COVID-19 while two others are supplying it with the help of a wooden stick from across an overflowing stream. The video has already garnered applause from people at home and abroad.

Owing to the arrival of monsoon, the Himalayan country reports a number of incidents of floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. Nepal reported massive floods and landslides in Manang district in the western part and Sindhupalchowk in the central mountains, this week.
Nepal is administering vaccines against the coronavirus disease to its senior citizens between 60 and 64 years of age.
Earlier, front line workers and elderly people above the age of 65 were inoculated the vaccines. According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), as many 730,728 people have so far received both doses of the vaccines while 2,491,114 others have been administered the first dose. As many as 1.4 million people including the senior citizens who received the first dose of the India-made vaccine before March are waiting for the second dose of the Covishield vaccine.
Nepal launched the vaccination drive on January 27 earlier this year.
