WHO expresses serious concern over fast-spreading pandemic in Nepal, calls for emergency aid

KATHMANDU, May 15: Showing concern over the fast spreading COVID-19 in Nepal, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said the country is in need of emergency aid, at a time when the government has failed to take prompt and effective action to address the crisis.

KATHMANDU, May 15: Showing concern over the fast spreading COVID-19 in Nepal, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said the country is in need of emergency aid, at a time when the government has failed to take prompt and effective action to address the crisis.


Speaking at a press meet on Friday, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed the concern. “The coronavirus has grappled the country to a serious situation,” said Ghebreyesus underlining the similar situation in India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Egypt.

Nepal has been witnessing over 9,000 new coronavirus infection cases and fatalities at an average of 200 individuals daily. While the country is struggling to manage adequate medical oxygen supply to the COVID-19 patients, many hospitals have given up admitting patients suffering from the pandemic.


Meanwhile, the WHO chief expressed his commitment to continue providing help to Nepal in all possible ways.
