KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Devraj Ghimire has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Ghimire got 167 votes and was elected to the crucial post.
Speaker Ghimire was elected from Jhapa Constituency No. 2 to the House of Representatives through the elections held on November 20 last year.

He defeated independent candidate Bhadra Prasad Nepal by getting 28,716 votes.
Ghimire, who was born on 26th May 1956 in Taplejung Sikaicha 3, has studied up to graduation level. He lives in Arjundhara Municipality-6 , Jhapa.
He started his political journey after the Jhapa rebellion in 1974 and is also the Chairman of the Sukhani Martyr Memorial Foundation. He was a member of the Standing Committee of the UML and became a member of the National Assembly in 1999. In 2018, he became the chairman of Province 1 of CPN, and he became a permanent committee member from the 10th National Convention of UML in 2021. He is still in charge of UML Province 1.
