KATHMANDU, Mar 6: Leaders of Nepali Congress and the Left Alliance have stressed the need to push Nepal towards development and prosperity through proactive collaboration and implementation of federalism. Here’s what leaders said during the meeting of federal parliament:
On collaboration:
Maoist Center Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal:
“Nepal’s history shows that when we collaborate, we can achieve more."
“It is through collaboration that we could usher into the area of a federal nation and now, we must collaborate, as much as possible to ensure development."
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba:
“Nepali Congress will become a proactive opposition during the Left Alliance’s rule."
Rajendra Mahato, member of party presidium of Rashtriya Janta Party-Nepal.
“We cannot fight longer or increase conflicts. We must forget old things as social harmony is crucial for development."
Federal Socialist Forum Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav:

“All political parties must collaborate and build consensus to work for national interest by developing and strengthening foreign policy."
On development (industries/employment):
Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Maoist Center Chair:
“Nepal’s economy is guided by remittance. Small change in global economy will collapse our economy. Hence, we must look into ourselves and establish industries and create employment while reducing trade deficits,”
“Corruption is rampant and institutionalized. We must uproot this practice to propel development."
“Apart from tourism and agriculture, we must also develop ICT industries and entrepreneurship to help youths stay in the country."
“We are neither pro or against our neighbors. We will collaborate with both to ensure Nepal’s development."
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba:
“As the base of development has been made due to the end of political instability, the new government must focus on economic development and prosperity."
RJP-N leader Rajendra Mahato:
“No one should die from starvation or lack of simplest of medicines like Cetamol.
FSFN Chair Upendra Yadav:
“Despite being rich in resources, we are least developed. Now, we must decide where we are to go."
“Corruption and commission are so institutionalized and deeply rooted that unless we control it, we cannot prosper."
“We need new scientific land policies to modernize agriculture industry."
“More than 300 profit generating industries shut down in the past two decades due to privatization and leverage."
On Constitution:
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba:
“No one must breach the fundamental structure of the constitution as it guarantees the rights of judiciary in federal Nepal."
“No one has the right to influence judiciary and its working procedure."
Maoist Center Chair Puspa Kamal Dahal:
“The constitution must be seen as a progressive document and it will address concerns of Madeshi leaders and citizens."
FSFN Chair Upendra Yadav:
“There are good things in the constitution, but there is structural discrimination regarding indigenous minorities, Dalit, Adhiwasi, Tharu and Madeshi people that needs to be addressed."
