Widespread tension in Sarlahi: Aerial shots fired at three places, polling officials beaten

RAUTAHAT, May 13: There is widespread tension in Sarlahi in the local level elections. Voting is being disrupted and clashes are taking place in different villages of Sarlahi. Meanwhile, a polling official has been beaten for allegedly influencing voters.

RAUTAHAT, May 13: There is widespread tension in Sarlahi in the local level elections. Voting is being disrupted and clashes are taking place in different villages of Sarlahi. Meanwhile, a polling official has been beaten for allegedly influencing voters.


Locals have become frustrated stating that polling officer Raj Kishor Shah taught voters to vote by showing the election symbol of one candidate at a polling station in Balara Municipality, Sarlahi district. Outraged locals thrashed polling officer Shah who was taken under control by the police.

Similarly, gunshots were fired at Chakraghata of Sarlahi. A clash broke out between CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samjbadi Party cadres at the Ram Narayan Primary School polling station in Shivanagar of Chakraghata Municipality-1. The security personnel opened fire after the situation became tense.


Likewise, shots were also fired at Ramnagar-4 Bahuarwa. Though the situation is under control in Dhankaul Municipality, polling has not been smooth.


Voting is taking place in Sarlahi amid widespread tensions and disputes. Meanwhile, voting has been postponed in Dhankaul of Sarlahi district. Chief of the District Police Office, Sarlahi, SP Praveen Pokharel said that an initiative is being taken for resuming voting in Dhankaul as well.
