KATHMANDU, Sept 17: Nepal’s coronavirus case tally has neared 60,000 after the confirmation of 1,246 new cases and four more deaths related to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) said on Thursday afternoon.
At a virtual media briefing, Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the MoHP, said that 1,246 new cases were detected through 10,641 PCR tests conducted at various labs across the country in the past 24 hours.

The number of people to be infected with COVID-19 has risen to 59,573, the ministry said on its official website on Thursday afternoon.
Although the new cases of coronavirus are on the rise, the number of people to be discharged after recovery, too, has been significant in recent days. In the past 24 hours alone, 1,243 persons were discharged after recovery, taking the country’s total COVID-19 recovery tally to 42,949. “Of the total coronavirus infections, 70 percent have recovered,” Spokesperson Gautam shared.
There are currently 16,241 active cases of coronavirus in the country.
According to Spokesperson Gautam, four more deaths related to COVID-19 were recorded in the past 24 hours. “Now, the number of people dying of coronavirus has risen to 383,” he added.
