KATHMANDU, July 3: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expedited consultations within his own faction of the NC as the party’s 14th General Convention scheduled for September 1-4 in Kathmandu is fast approaching.
Deuba held a meeting with leaders close to him to discuss their strategies in the upcoming general convention including resolving the disputes seen in the distribution of the party’s general membership.

NC Vice Presidents duo Bimalendra Nidhi and Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka, Joint General Secretary Prakash Sharan Mahat and senior leader NP Saud were among those participating in the meeting. Similarly, Active Membership Distribution Probe Committee members Aananda Dhungana, Shyam Ghimire and Yogendra Chaudhary also participated in the meeting held at the residence of Deuba.
Leaders close to Deuba said the meeting was organized to discuss ways to settle disputes seen in the distribution of the party’s active membership. Disputes have surfaced in the distribution of the party’s active membership in some 1,500 wards across the country.
On the occasion, Deuba suggested to the Probe Committee members to resolve the disputes seen in the active membership distribution as there was no alternative to holding the general convention within the stipulated time, according to NC leader Saud.
On the occasion, Deuba also asked leaders close to him to expedite internal preparations to make sure that their faction would be able to secure victory in the party’s general convention.
Nidhi, another aspirant for NC presidency, had earlier held a meeting with General Secretary Shashank Koirala and senior leader Prakash Man Singh to work out for a new alliance in the party. He started his preparations to forge a new alliance after Deuba expressed his intention to contest again for the post of party president.
