Women candidates vie for mayor positions in two municipalities of Karnali Province

BIRENDRANAGAR, April 25: Nepali Congress (NC) has fielded women candidates in Narayan Municipality while CPN-UML has fielded women candidates in Birendranagar. The two parties have fielded Nirmala Khadka in Narayan and Mohan Maya Dhakal in Birendranagar municipalities.

BIRENDRANAGAR, April 25: Nepali Congress (NC) has fielded women candidates in Narayan Municipality while CPN-UML has fielded women candidates in Birendranagar. The two parties have fielded Nirmala Khadka in Narayan and Mohan Maya Dhakal in Birendranagar municipalities.


CPN UML has fielded deputy mayor of Birendranagar– capital city of Karnali Province– as mayor candidate while Nirmala Khadka, a ward member in Narayan municipality, has been nominated as mayor candidate by the ruling NC.  There are fewer women candidates in other municipalities of Karnali. Apart from some possible candidates for the post of ward chairperson, the major parties have not fielded female candidates.

Although 12 names have been recommended for the post of mayor in Narayan municipality, the party has fielded Nirmala Khadka as its candidate. Khadka is known as a popular leader in the municipality. 


Similarly, despite three candidates being discussed in Birendranagar, CPN-UML has recommended Mohan Maya Dhakal as the candidate for mayor. This has drawn much interest from local people as both of these candidates have become talk of the town these days.
