KATHMANDU, May 27: A writ petition has been registered in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking the removal of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane from his positions as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

Advocate Anupam Bhattarai filed the petition on Monday with the Office of the Attorney General, naming Attorney General Dina Mani Pokharel and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane as respondents.

The petition demands Lamichhane's suspension due to his alleged involvement in a cooperative fraud case. It also calls for the revocation of a letter from the Office of the Attorney General which states that there is no case against him.

The petitioner argues that Lamichhane's continuation in office could hinder the investigation into the cooperative fraud allegations.
