Yam Lal Kandel sworn in as Karnali CM

SURKHET, April 10: The newly-appointed chief minister (CM) of Karnali Province, Yam Lal Kandel, has taken the oath of office and secrecy.

SURKHET, April 10: The newly-appointed chief minister (CM) of Karnali Province, Yam Lal Kandel, has taken the oath of office and secrecy.


He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Province Chief Tilak Pariyar on Wednesday.

Kandel, a leader of the CPN-UML, assumed the role of CM following his appointment to the post on Tuesday.


With nine provincial parliamentarians from UML (except the Speaker) in the 40-member Karnali Provincial Assembly, Kandel secured the support of the Maoist Center (13) and the Unified Socialist (1) as per the new coalition agreement.  


The support of a minimum of 21 provincial assembly members is needed to form the government in Karnali Province.
