KATHMANDU, Nov 22: The Institute of Medicine (IoM), Tribhuvan University (TU), has banned 12 students involved in cheating by using electronic devices in the MBBS entrance exam conducted on October 14.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, IOM said that all the 12 students caught cheating with electronic devices in the entrance exams have been banned for four years from taking such exams.

According to IOM, nine fake examinees, who were taking tests for others, were caught in the entrance test while seven foreign students did not appear in the test though they had collected their admit cards on the eve of the exams. “The controversy of question leak was baseless and not proved by any investigation. However, 14 questions out of 59 were matched in the question papers. It's just a coincidence but not leakage,” said Prof Dr JP Agrawal, Dean at IOM. “The exams were better managed this year.”

As per the direction from the meeting of TU to IOM for taking necessary decision on the controversial entrance exams, IOM on Sunday canceled the controversial test taken on October 14. “The new entrance test will be taken on December 2,” reads the statement signed by Dr Agrawal. “We all urge all the stakeholders to make the test ethical and decent.”
