KATHMANDU, April 26: As many as 141,468 candidates have registered their candidacies for various posts for the upcoming local-level election slated for May 13, according to the Election Commission (EC).
The EC made public the final data on nomination at 10:30AM today. As per the update, there are 22,194 candidates in Province 1 and 36,275 candidates in Madhesh Province. Similarly, there are 23,654 candidates in Bagmati Province, 12,314 candidates in Gandaki Province, 22,421 candidates in Lumbini Province, 12,848 candidates in Karnali and 11,762 candidates in Sudurpaschim Province.

Of them, 3,318 candidates have registered themselves for chair/mayor post and 2,036 candidates for deputy mayor/vice chair post at rural municipalities and municipalities. Similarly, 3,306 were for rural municipality chairperson, 2,343 for vice-chairpersons, and 33,111 for ward chairpersons, 24,283 for female members, 21,979 for Dalit women members, and 51,092 for members.
Likewise, 753 candidacies have been filed for local level mayor, deputy-,ayor, chairman and vice-chairman, 6,743 for ward chairman, women member and dalit women member each, 35,221 members for the upcoming local-level elections.
The EC has slated today (April 26) as the day to receive complaints, if any, against the candidates.
Investigation into the complaints will be done on April 27 and 28. It will be followed by the publication of the candidates’ name list. The deadline to withdraw nominations is April 29. After that the EC will publish the final name-list of the candidates.
