DHANGADHI, Sept 24: People across the country have been protesting on a daily basis to show their solidarity with the family members of Nirmala Panta in their quest for seeking justice for the rape and murder of the thirteen-year-old teenager of Kanchapur.
There are some places in Province 7 where people are demonstrating almost every day demanding the authorities to book Nirmala’s murderers soon. However, this has not deterred other individuals from harassing and raping unsuspecting girls.
In Kanchanpur alone, nine girls have been raped since Nirmala’s rape and subsequent murder.
On September 20, a ten-year-old boy of Krishnapur Municipality-1 raped a seven-year-old girl. While the boy is a sixth grader at Kalika Secondary School, the victim is a second grader in the same school. The incident came to light after the victim complained of severe pain to her mother after returning home from school. When the mother saw her little daughter’s vagina bleeding, she immediately filed a complaint with the police. Inspector Krishna Ojha of Kanchanpur informed that the boy has already been arrested.

On September 13, police received a complaint about a nine-month-old infant of Punarbas Municipality-5 being raped some 500 meters away from her house in a field. SP Kuber Kadayat, chief of Kanchanpur police, speculates that it might not be a rape as the minor “has injuries in her genitals.
As the toddler was taken to the field in the middle of the night, police are searching for the person who took her there.
“The truth will be known after we will book the person who took her to the field in the middle of the night,” said SP Kadayat.
Inspector Ojha claims that the perpetrators of all eight rape cases reported in the last two months have been booked but the person allegedly involved in taking the nine-month-old to the field is still to be identified.
Despite pressure from all over the country, police have not been able to book persons involved in killing Nirmala Panta yet.
In another instance, twenty-one-year-old Maya BK of Gauriganga Municipality -11 of Kailali was brutally raped and murdered by a group of five men on June 26. Maya who left home for office in the morning never returned back. Currently, all the five men involved in the incident are behind the bars.
