ROLPA, May 25: At least five people were killed in a jeep accident in Rukum West on Thursday.


According to Bafikot-8 Ward Chairman Dhan Bahadur Khatri, five people died in the accident, including a pregnant woman. According to him, the deceased are Karna Bahadur Batha, Deuchan Khatri, Sitla Kusari of Sani Bheri Rural Municipality- 5.

Similarly, 22-year-old Rekha Khatri of Bafikot Rural Municipality-8 and her 22-day-old son also died in the accident.


The accident occurred at Duli, Bafikot-8, on Thursday morning. The ill-fated jeep (LU 1 JA 1747) was heading from Sani Bheri Rural Municipality-5 Melchaur to the district headquarters Khalanga.


Rukum Police Information Officer Bishnu Shrestha said that 15 passengers including two children who were injured in the accident were rescued from the accident site.


The seriously injured Prem Batha, Kusari, Anita KC, Lalit Batha have been sent to Nepalgunj by a helicopter.


Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Panta said that the seriously injured were flown by a helicopter for further treatment. According to locals, the vehicle fell about 400 meters from the road.
