KATHMANDU, June 8: Lawmaker Asha Kumari Bishwakarma from the main opposition party CPN-UML has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand.

Stating that the home minister could not provide peace and security to the people, MP Bishwakarma demanded the resignation of Home Minister Khand. Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, she argued that the home minister should resign on moral grounds as the government has been watching the incident of four-year-old girl being found dead in Surkhet and a girl gang-raped by seven people while going to celebrate birthday in Khajura of Banke.

MP Bishwakarma said, "Is it a sin to be born as a girl child? Yesterday, a seven-year-old girl, Grishma BK, was found dead in Surkhet. There is no guarantee that a girl who has gone to school or shop will return home. People cannot feel peace and security.”

She added, despite such a heinous crime, the home minister has been watching silently. “If it is not possible to protect the people and girl children, then the Home Minister should resign on moral grounds. If not, peace and security must be maintained,” she said.
