KHOTANG, July 8: A prisoner has been found dead on Sunday evening in the toilet of Khotang District Prison.
The deceased convicted of murder has been identified as Sudip Rai, 31, a local of Kepilash Gadhi rural municipality-1. He was serving a 20-year jail term.
Chitrakhar Acharya, Chief of Khotang District Prison said that the security personnel started searching for Rai after he went missing from prison. “Later on, the security personnel found him hanging in the toilet,” Acharya said.
Inmate found dead in district prison
Rai received a 20-year prison sentenced after he was found guilty of murdering his wife Sushma Rai.
Inspector Keshab Kumar Katwal of District Police Office, Khotang said that preparations are being made to conduct a post-mortem on the dead body of Rai after consulting his family members.
In the course of an investigation, Police has found that Rai set fire to his house to make the locals believe that his wife was burnt to death.
Sudeep had returned home from abroad only two weeks before the incident.
