KATHMANDU, Feb 3: Airline companies have hiked the airfares by up to Rs 445 per travel citing the recent increase in fuel prices.
A few days ago, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) increased the price of air turbine fuel (for domestic flight) by Rs 10 per liter. This is the third time that the airline companies have revised their flight service charges in the past two and a half months.
Airfares become dearer with hike in fuel prices
In the new rate, the one-way trip of Kathmandu-Dhangadhi cost Rs 5,125, an increase of Rs 445 as fuel surcharge. The flight charge of Kathmandu-Bharatpur is now Rs 1,240, an increase of Rs 105 as compared to the existing fare, according to the Airline Operators Association of Nepal.
Meanwhile, the truck operators have also demanded the government to hike the cargo transport fare citing rise in the fuel prices. Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the Federation of Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Nepal, said the truck operators have been facing excess financial burden due to frequent hike of fuel prices in a short period of time.
According to the Federation, last time the cargo fare was revised when the price of diesel was Rs 104 per liter. “At the time when the transport fares have hardly been adjusted in line with the old rate, the latest surge of diesel price to Rs 125 per liter has imposed additional burden to the transporters,” reads the press release issued by the Federation.
