KATHMANDU, Feb 28: The Bibeksheel Sajha Party has urged everyone not to further politicize the USD 500 million Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement.

“The MCC compact agreement was over-politicized and in the end, it was ratified through an interpretative declaration which has no constitutional or legal status. This is an example of how low politics can get,” reads a press release issued by the party on Monday.

The Bibeksheel Sajha Party has alleged that the MCC was ratified because of vested political interests.

“Like many serious decisions taken by the government in the past by ignoring the national interest, the MCC too was ratified by parliament because of vested political interests. It is a matter of great concern that a debate on the national interest is not their primary goal,” the release reads.

The party has also accused the ruling coalition and the main opposition party of being irresponsible and immature regarding MCC. The statement added that the MCC has become a complex geopolitical issue due to the unnatural activism of China and the United States of America due to the reluctant attitude of the ruling coalition and the opposition over the grant agreement.

“But to politicize the MCC in the upcoming days is to worsen the increasingly sensitive geopolitical complexities of Nepal. No one should do that anymore,” the press release mentioned.
