KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Founding Chairman of the Britain-Nepal Academic Council and Global Policy Forum for Nepal Prof. Surya P. Subedi has expressed solidarity and support for the ongoing campaign of Dr Govinda KC.
Issuing a press statement, Subedi, who is also a Professor of International Law at the University of Leeds, UK, has called upon Nepal government to fulfill the demands of Dr Govinda KC without any further delay.
Justify it
“KC’s campaign is designed to depoliticize the management and administration of Nepal's academic sector and promote academic freedom,” Subedi said in the statement.
Recalling that one of the areas of focus of the Global Policy Forum for Nepal in its first global conference held in Kathmandu last year was on the need for de-politicization of the management and administration of Nepal's academic sector, Professor Subedi said that in order to usher the country toward economic development, prosperity and good governance Nepal government should demonstrate its commitment to academic freedom and address without any further delay the demands of Prof Dr KC.
Dr KC, a senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, has been staging fast-onto-death for the last 19 days, putting forth a six-point demand concerning reforms in Nepal’s health sector.
