The meeting is called to form a common view of the ruling coalition amid pressure from the Election Commission and the main opposition UML to announce the date of local elections.

It will discuss the dates for the local elections as well as the National Assembly elections, scheduled for January 26. Discussion is also underway on whether to hold the local level election in March or all three-level elections at once in November.
