KATHMANDU, July 30: The Nepal Police Headquarters has removed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ranjan Dahal from the post of chief of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Durbarmarg.
On the recommendation of the committee formed to probe the 15-kg yellow metal case, Dahal has been sent to the Nepal Police Training Academy for investigations into the charges against him.
“As Dahal has been removed from the post, DSP Rameshwor Poudel from the training academy has been sent as the chief of Durbarmarg Police,” Senior Superintendent of Police Kuber Kadayat, spokesperson for Nepal Police, told Republica.

Dahal has been accused of changing the incident site, not informing about the incident to the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, and helping smugglers to flee from Kathmandu.
On Tuesday, a team of police led by DSP Dahal seized 15-kg yellow metal from a moving car in Kathmandu. The Durbarmarg Police claimed that the individuals from the moving car threw the yellow metal and weapons on the street in Kamaladi area.
As the case was suspicious, the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, formed a committee led by Senior Superintendent of Police Sushil Yadav to further investigate the case. The committee found that the Durbarmarg Police had created a ‘fake incident site’, and the gold was thrown from the car in Sundhara area.
Of the 15-kg yellow metal, 500 grams was gold, while the remaining 14.5 kgs metal was silver, according to police.
In the meantime, police have already arrested three persons for their involvement in gold smuggling. Police have also impounded the vehicle used to smuggle the gold.
