CIAA interference breaches varsities' independence: Ex-VCs

KATHMANDU, July 4: Former Vice Chancellors of various universities have demanded parliamentary probe into the alleged interference of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in the MBBS entrance exam of the Kathmandu University.

KATHMANDU, July 4: Former Vice Chancellors of various universities have demanded parliamentary probe into the alleged interference of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in the MBBS entrance exam of the Kathmandu University.



Issuing a joint statement on Saturday, they said that the CIAA's interference encroaches upon the jurisdiction of independent university.  "The rumor that the student who came first in the entrance exam is the son of a member of the exam board has breached international practices and values," reads the statement.



"This kind of behavior will ruin the educational sector and result in the loss of credibility," the statement further reads.



The former VCs have demanded formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate over the alleged interference of the CIAA.  



Mahesh Kumar Upadhya, Kedar Bhakta Mathema, Kamal Krishna Joshi, Nabin Jung Shah, Govinda Prasad Sharma, Triratna Manandhar are among the former VCs who have undersigned the joint statement demanding the probe.



Dr Govinda KC, a senior professor at the Institute of Medicine, has warned of fresh hunger strike demanding impeachment of CIAA's chief commissioner Lok Man Singh Karki for his alleged interference in the KU's entrance exam.



Meanwhile, Association of Private Medical and Dental College of Nepal has condemned the warning of the eighth fast-unto-death by Dr KC.
