Civil Engineer Sharma held on fraud charge

KATHMANDU, July 20: Lalitpur Police on Thursday arrested a thug on the charge of fleecing fresh students of Rs 300,000 by promising to help them get through the entrance exams of the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchowk under Tribhuvan University.

KATHMANDU, July 20: Lalitpur Police on Thursday arrested a thug on the charge of fleecing fresh students of Rs 300,000 by promising to help them get through the entrance exams of the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchowk under Tribhuvan University.


The arrested has been identified as Civil Engineer Dev Sharma, a former IOE student and resident of Rangeli, Morang.

Sharma is found to have charged the aforementioned amount per student, promising him/her to get through the entrance test for the IOE.


He used to gain trust by giving a reference to a well known professor of the institute, SP Ishwar Karki of Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Range Office, told Republica Online.


SP Karki further added, “He used to make numerous calls to the professor of the IOE which inflicted a doubt in the mind of a victim who then came to the police for help.”


Police said they are investigating the case after taking the ‘fraudster’ under control.
