Five held on Citizens Bank’s gold fraud charge

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Tuesday arrested five people including three gold testers on the charge of committing banking offense.


The arrested are Samin Shakya, 26, Bindesh Shakya, 28, Amit Raj Bajracharya, 33, Lava Barailee, 45, and Umesh Raj Barailee, 28, said SP Sanuram Bhattarai, spokesperson of the CIB.

Two among those arrested are debtors.


They have been accused of misappropriating 7497.28 kilograms of gold incurring a loss of Rs 22, 838, 400 to Citizens Bank in cahoots with the loan takers while at the bank as gold testers, according to the preliminary investigation.


Police said they are looking into the case by taking them on a seven-day remand from the court in line with the Banking Offense and Punishment Act, 2064.
