KATHMANDU, July 8: Chief of the Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa will hold meetings with US military officials during his week-long visit to the United States, the Nepal Army stated on Monday.
In a press statement, the Nepal Army Headquarters said that Thapa will hold talks with Vice Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces Paul J. Selva and officials of the US Department of Defense who are responsible for South Asian affairs. Selva is a General of the U.S. Air Force.
Thapa is also scheduled to hold meetings with senior officials of the United Nations including UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed and Under-Secretary-General for the United Nations Department of Field Support Atul Khare, according to the Army Headquarters.

During the visit, CoAS Thapa will participate in two separate conferences. According to the itinerary, Thapa will take part in the British Armed Forces Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) CHODS Network Meeting to be held on July 10 at the UN headquarters in New York.
Similarly, he will also attend the Chiefs of Defence Conference to be organized by UN Secretariat on July 11.
In its statement, the Nepal Army expressed hope that the visit will contribute to the enhancement of cordial ties between the militaries of the two countries.
Accompanied by three other members of a four-member-delegation, CoAS Thapa left home for the United States on Monday.
