Code of Conduct for President,  Vice President elections comes into effect from today

KATHMANDU, March 1: The Election Commission (EC) has enforced the code of conduct for the election of the President and Vice President from today. The EC has issued a code of conduct that will remain valid from today till March 19.

KATHMANDU, March 1: The Election Commission (EC) has enforced the code of conduct for the election of the President and Vice President from today. The EC has issued a code of conduct that will remain valid from today till March 19.


According to the decision made by the EC on February 28, the elections to the new President will be held on March 9 and Vice President on March 17. An electorate consisting of 332 voters in the federal parliament and 550 in the provincial assembly will be formed for both the elections as per the constitutional provision.

According to the approved program, the election officer's office has been established for the presidential election and the nomination papers for candidacy have been registered on February 13. The final list of candidates will be published on Tuesday. Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Ram Chandra Paudel and CPN-UML candidate Subas Nemwang are in the running for president.


The EC has issued a code of conduct using the authority given by section 22 of the Election Commission Act, 2017. The code of conduct has been published in the Nepal Gazette Volume-72; Number 32 dated August 29, 2022.


The same code of conduct was also applied for the election of members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the provincial assemblies held on November 20 last year. According to the EC’s decision, the code of conduct applies to the Government of Nepal and ministers of the Government of Nepal, provincial governments and ministers of the provincial governments, unions, province and local level employees, security agencies, security personnel and employees and government, semi-government and public organizations and their employees, political parties and political parties' fraternal organizations, to the candidates and candidates' representatives, political parties and candidates' voting and counting representatives, public office holders, media institutions, their employees and media workers and voters.
