KATHMANDU, Aug 6: The main opposition party Nepali Congress has expressed concern over the issue of Nepal Communist Party keeping the NCP headquarters in the public land.

Speaking at the parliament session on Tuesday, NC's whip Pushpa Bhusal accused the NCP of keeping its party headquarters at Dhumbarahi in the capital encroaching upon the government land.

She demanded the government to make public the details related to the public land currently used by Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Academy (PLMA) and used by the ruling NCP.

"All are equal under the law and it should be followed by the ruling or any other parties equally," she said.

Another Congress lawmaker Uma Regmi also urged the government to make public the details related to the public land used by the ruling NCP.

The then CPN (UML) shifted its headquarters to a rented building which was previously used by Pasang Lhamu Memorial Academy based in Dhumbarahi after the devastating earthquake in 2015.

As a second party, the academy allowed the NCP to use its building breaching the existing laws.

A working procedure for registration and leasing of the state-owned land introduced by the government clearly states that the leased property cannot be given to a third party.

Hence, the lawmakers argue that keeping the NCP office on the land owned by the government is a breach of the existing laws.

The government had awarded academy to use the aforementioned land on December 7 in 2006.
