KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The coronavirus infection in Nepal has decreased by 60 percent, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. The ministry’s Spokesperson Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel said that the infection rate has decreased by 60 percent in a month.
According to Dr Poudel, there were 40,338 active cases of the infection by mid-August, but the number reached 15,942 in the first week of mid-September. He said that vaccination against the COVID-19 virus was one of the reasons behind the significant decline in the number of infections. Similarly, he also said that the policy adopted by the government of Nepal to protect against the virus and the implementation of health standards by the public was another reason for the decline in the infection rate.
Number of smokers in Nepal decreases by 34.1 percent
In Nepal, the infection rate is 18.7 percent while the infection-free rate is 96.7 percent. Similarly, vaccination against the coronavirus has been carried out as per the target. The target is to vaccinate 33 percent of the total population by mid-October. “So far, 40 percent have been vaccinated with the first dose and 32 percent with both the doses,” said the ministry’s Spokesperson Dr Poudel. Thus, it has been ensured that all the citizens will be vaccinated as per the target of the government. The total number of people who received the first dose is 8.7 million while 6.9 million have received both the doses of COVID-19 vaccines till date.
