Disappointment for Nepali shuttlers in Yonex series

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Nepali shuttlers produced disappointing results in the ongoing Yonex Sunrise Nepal International Series on Thursday as only four players out of 20 registered  victories.

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Nepali shuttlers produced disappointing results in the ongoing Yonex Sunrise Nepal International Series on Thursday as only four players out of 20 registered 

victories. 


Prince Dahal, Sajan Tamrakar, Dipesh Dhami, and Ratnajit Tamang were the shuttlers from Nepal who managed to win their respective matches in the series being held at Dasharath Stadium covered hall, Tripureshwar. 


Dahal and Tamrakar overcame opponents Nepal in the men’s singles clashes. Dahal defeated Bishnu Katwal 21-11, 21-12 while Tamrakar saw off Praful Maharjan 21-12, 21-14.

In the same event, Dhami and Tamang beat Indian opponents Sai Charan Koya and Dhrub Kumar respectively. 


Dhami recorded 14-21, 21-17, 22-20 victory over Koya whereas Nepal’s number one Tamang registered straight sets win of 21-17, 21-16 over Kumar. 


Six other Nepali shuttlers including Sunil Joshi, Nabin Shrestha, Bijeet Thapa Magar, Deepak Bohara, Irfan Ansari, and Bhugol Gurung suffered defeats at the hands of Indian opponents in the same category of men’s singles.


Joshi and Shrestha faced losses to Balraj Kajila and Lakhanee Sarang with the score-lines of 21-16, 21-18 and 21-15, 21-11 respectively. Similarly, Magar and Bohora were beaten by Aman Kumar and Karan Chaudhary in the straight sets of 21-9, 21-11 and 21-17, 21-16 respectively. 


In the same category, Ansari suffered defeat of 21-14, 21-5 at the hands of Kartik Jindal, while in another match Gurung was crushed by Aneeth Kumar Rupedi 21-18, 21-9. 


In the women’s singles as well, Nepali players were beaten by Indian opponents. Nepal’s number one in women’s ranking Nangsal Tamang faced 13-21, 21-14, 21-12 loss to Saili Rane whereas Anu Maya Rai was beaten by Pranali Karani 19-21, 21-9, 21-16. 


In the same category, Sunaina Mukhiya and Amita Giri were crushed by Aakarshi Kashyap and Mugha Aghrey with the score-lines of 21-8, 21-9 and 21-17, 21-14 respectively. Likewise, Shova Gauchan was another Nepali player to suffer defeat at the hands of Indian opponent as she was trounced by Vidhu Nair (21-18, 21-15).


In another match of the same category, Jessica Gurung faced 21-13, 21-10 defeat to Bangladeshi opponent Alina Sultana.
