KATHMANDU, June 28: The Nepal Socialist Party has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, calling for the establishment of the Budhi Gandaki Corridor Development Authority to expedite the Budhigandaki Corridor Multipurpose Project.
Former Prime Minister and party chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai delivered the memorandum to PM Dahal at the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday.

The memorandum urges the dissolution of the current project structure, which operates as a subsidiary company under the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), citing its ineffectiveness. Dr Bhattarai emphasized the urgent need for a well-resourced and empowered Budhi Gandaki Corridor Development Authority.
The document also demands that the overall development of the Budhi Gandaki Corridor be accelerated and the legitimate concerns of the project-affected citizens be addressed promptly.
Addressing journalists, Dr Bhattarai said, “The current subsidiary company under the NEA is incapable of accomplishing this project. This situation suggests a lack of commitment to completing the project and raises suspicions of deliberate delays or downgrading it to a smaller hydroelectric project. We believe this is the direction it is heading, which is why we have raised this issue seriously.”
He warned that if their demands are not met by September 16, the party would initiate a strong movement starting September 17.
