KATHMANDU, Dec 28: The Election Commission (EC) has made necessary preparations for the registration of the nomination papers of the candidates on January 8 for the election of National Assembly members to be held on January 25.
According to the election schedule approved by the EC, it has clarified about the documents that the candidates should attach while registering their nomination papers. According to Shaligram Sharma Paudyal, the spokesperson for the EC, the candidates have to submit a copy of their Nepali citizenship certificate, a copy of the name included in the last voter list of a rural municipality or municipality, and a receipt or voucher for the deposit of Rs 10,000. In the case of women, dalit or minority communities or economically disadvantaged candidates, there will be a 50 percent discount on the bond amount. A letter of recommendation from the relevant local government stating that they are economically disadvantaged should be attached.
For nomination, in the case of party candidates, a formal letter of candidate nomination, a certificate proving that the candidate from the Dalit community is a person from the Dalit community issued by the relevant rural municipality, municipality or an authorized body according to the prevailing laws will be required. Persons with disabilities or candidates from minority communities must submit a certified copy of the disability certificate issued by the authorized body of the Government of Nepal. In addition, a person belonging to a minority community must attach a certificate issued by the relevant rural municipality, municipality or authorized body that proves that s/he is a person belonging to a minority community.

The names of the proposer and seconder, the relevant member of the Provincial Assembly or the chair/vice-chair of the rural municipality within the province, and the mayor/deputy mayor of the municipality, along with evidence of their registration in the voter list and their voter number, must be provided.
In addition, the property details of the candidate with details of the house number, location and land, a self-declaration stating that s/he is not disqualified by any federal law, a self-declaration stating that s/he is not holding any position that receives remuneration or financial benefits from government funds except for political positions filled by election or nomination, are also required, the commission said.
The EC has stated that while filing candidacy, if there is an official holding a position of benefit or an elected position, a copy of the registration of his resignation from the position, a copy of the letter of the commission withdrawing his name from the closed list for the proportional election system in the previous House of Representatives or Provincial Assembly member elections are also required.
The tenure of 19 elected members of the National Assembly and one member nominated by the President will end on March 3, next year.
