National Assembly Elections: EC allocates election symbols to candidates

KATHMANDU, Jan 13: The Election Commission (EC) has allocated election symbols to the candidates for the National Assembly member election to be held on Thursday.


According to the approved program of the EC, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM today, the election officer's office provided the election symbols of the respective parties to the candidates from 10 AM to 1 PM.

EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel stated that the election symbols of the respective parties were provided to the candidates from the office of the election officer of all the seven provinces.


A total of 51 candidates from eight political parties are contesting in the election. Nomination papers were registered for this election on January 8. According to the EC, there are five candidates in Koshi, five in Madhesh, 15 in Bagmati, eight in Gandaki and six in Lumbini provinces.


Nomination papers of six candidates have been registered in Karnali province and Sudurpaschim province. There are a total of 51 candidates in all the seven provinces, 18 represent the women group, five for the Dalit group, eight for persons with disabilities or minority communities and 20 for other groups.
