Five dead, one missing in Pokhara landslide

POKHARA, Sept 1: Five persons died and one has gone missing after a landslide swept away their houses in Pokhara. The deceased have been identified as four men and a woman. According to Kaski Police, five others were injured.

POKHARA, Sept 1: Five persons died and one has gone missing after a landslide swept away their houses in Pokhara. The deceased have been identified as four men and a woman. According to Kaski Police, five others were injured.


“Krishna Shrestha, 45, of Bhalam, Pokhara Metropolitan City-20 and his wife Sunmaya Tamang, 35, died when the landslide buried their house,” said Subash Hamal, Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). Their three-year-old son Santosh is missing while another nine-year-old son Rajkumar is injured.  DSP Hamal shared that Sunmaya died on the spot and Shrestha died at a hospital.

Similarly, Bishnu Sarki, 29, and his 8-year-old son Santosh Sarki also died when their house collapsed at Mulabari Deurali of Bhalam in Pokhara-20. Likewise, Laxman Sarki, 42, died when his house at Namunatol in Pokhara-11 was buried in a landslide. His 14-year-old daughter Shristi has returned home after treatment.


Meanwhile, three persons were injured in a landslide at Baseri in Pokhara-11. “Heavy rains have caused landslides resulting in human casualties,” DSP Hamal said.
