KATHMANDU, April 19: The meeting between five major parties concluded that the local level elections should be conducted on May 14 at any cost.

In a meeting summoned by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his official residence Baluwatar on Wednesday, the leaders discussed on how to bring agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front onboard the local level elections and about the possibilities of holding the elections in two phases.

Prime Minister Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam, RPP leader Deepak Bohara and Madhesi People's Right Forum (Democratic) Chairman Bijay Gachhedar have attended the meeting along with other leaders from the parties.

After the meeting, Subhas Nembang, the deputy parliamentary party leader of CPN-UML, said that his party urged the government to hold the local level election in single phase across the country.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress President Deuba said that the leaders concluded that the elections could be conducted in two phases only if the agitating UDMF assures of their participation in the local polls.

Likewise, CPN (Maoist Center) leader Janardan Sharma said that the leaders agreed to continue political discussion with the UDMF to create an environment for them to participate in the local level elections.

"If the UDMF assures of their participation, time could be allowed to them for preparation. Otherwise, the local level elections would be conducted on May 14 at any cost," said Sharma.
